Amazon Regional Fire Dialogue

Amazon Regional Fire Dialogue

the Netherlands - 23 April, 2025

In January 2025, we co-organized the first Amazon Regional Fire Dialogue in Concepción, Santa Cruz - Bolivia with our network partner, the Bolivian Institute of Forest Investigation (IBIF).

We brought together indigenous representatives from Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru to share experiences, identify best practices, and develop collaborative strategies for fire management and resilience.

Over three days, participants engaged inknowledge-sharing, learning, and strategic discussions, informed by field visits in the Monteverde IndigenousTerritory to witness firsthand the impacts of fires on landsand livelihoods – and the resilience of communities.

Together, participants developed a shared agenda and collective recommendations to strengthen community-based fire management across the Amazon:

  1. Access to technology, data, training and equipment
  2. Change perspectives on fire management
  3. Engage decision-makers to inform fire management policy, practice and financing
